Irina Cărăbaş is assistant professor at the Department of Art History and Theory, National University of Arts in Bucharest. She is currently the recipient of a post-doctoral research grant from the Romanian Academy (June/July 2015 at the ZI). Her Ph.D. thesis (2011) dealt with the avant-garde magazine Integral in an attempt to reconsider the constructivist reception in Romania. She is the author of several studies concerning the Romanian avant-garde, Constructivism, avant-garde magazines and Socialist Realism, published in periodicals and collective volumes among which (DIS)CONTINUITIES. Fragments of Romanian Modernity in the first half of the 20th century, (with Carmen Popescu and Ruxandra Demetrescu, Bucharest, 2010); Literary Representations of Brancusi’s Studio (Revue Roumaine d’Histoire de l’Art, 2012); To Germany and Back Again. The Romanian Avant-Garde and its Forrunners (Centropa, sept. 2012); Jules Perahim ilustrator. Grafică şi angajament politic în anii 1950 (Caietele avangardei, 3, 2014). She is also co-editor of the special issue on Futurism of Studii şi cercetări de istoria artei (2009) and of the books Di suo’ maniera e di suo’ aria. Eseuri în onoarea Ancăi Oroveanu (Bucharest, 2012), After Brancusi (Bucharest, 2014).
