Albert Bloch’s Participation in the Exhibitions of the Blue Rider and the Sturm Gallery

Albert Bloch, the American Blue Rider, created a photographic record of his paintings during his Munich years (1909–1920). His “Record Books” opened the door to an international artistic and literary network, most notably by way of Café Stefanie. At a time of innovation in the world of art, Bloch was not simply a passive observer, but an active participant.

Frank Baron
Professor of German at the University of Kansas, served as director of the Max Kade Center for German-American Studies and in that capacity took steps to conserve Albert Bloch’s legacy as artist and author. He was co-editor for the volume that accompanied the catalogue of the exhibition that took place at the Lenbachhaus in 1997: Albert Bloch. Künstlerische und literarische Perspektiven (München: Prestel Verlag, 1997).
