Album Making in Seventeenth Century Istanbul: The Palace, the City and the Globe

Im Rahmen der Vortragsreihe "Global Arts in the Early Modern World. Kunstgeschichte der Welt 1300-1800"

Global Arts in the Early Modern World

Emine Fetvaci will focus on the representations of the city of Istanbul in an album made for the Ottoman sultan Ahmed I around 1609.  The many portrait-like depictions of urban types and the genre scenes that fill the pages of this eclectic and multivalent album will be examined in the context of cross-cultural exchange, urban growth and apocalyptic anxiety.

Dr. Emine Fetvaci

Emine Fetvaci received her Ph. D. in History of Art and Architecture from Harvard University in 2005. Her first book, Picturing History at the Ottoman Court (Indiana University Press, 2013), was awarded the 2014 M. Fuat Köprülü Book Prize by the Ottoman and Turkish Studies Association.  Professor Fetvaci is also the editor, with Erdem Çipa, of Writing History at the Ottoman Court (IUP, 2013). Both of her books have been translated into Turkish.
