Florentine Quattrocento paintings in the National Gallery, London: some problems and solutions revisited
The lecture will discuss some of the late Trecento and early Quattrocento
altarpieces in the National Gallery, London, featured in the catalogue of
2003 - including works by Agnolo Gaddi and Lorenzo Monaco, Starnina, and
Masaccio - focussing on some of the advances in research made since 2003,
particularly with regard to altarpiece reconstructions.
Dr. Dillian Gordon studied Modern and Medieval Languages at Girton College, Cambridge, followed by an M.A. and Ph.D. at the Courtauld Institute. She was Curator of early Italian paintings at the National Gallery, London, from 1978 until she retired in 2010. In 2011 she was appointed OBE (Officer of the British Empire) for services to early Italian painting. She lives in Oxford where she continues to research Trecento and Quattrocento Italian painting.
