Since 1945, the Documentation française has published several illustrated albums on the war. The first to date, L'album de France, was offered by the Provisional Government in memory of the 27th session of the International Labour Conference in November 1945. The constraints of the moment determined the presentation: 35 original photographic plates printed in series, bound in a spiral binding, accompanied by a brief text in French and English, illustrate
the horrors and ruins of the war, the action of the French combatants and the Resistance,
the first visits of General de Gaulle to France, and the reconstruction effort. » (Antiquariatskatalog ‘Propagande’, Alain Sinibaldi, Montreuil, 2023)
