Online-Vortrag // Udo Weilacher: Call it sculpture when it moves you so: Creations between art and landscape by Isamu Noguchi
Prior to Land Art only few artists succeeded in broadening the concept of sculpture to the extent that landscape space no longer served as a background to the work, but became its subject. Isamu Noguchi, born 1904 in Los Angeles, undoubtedly belonged to this vanguard. His minimalist sculptures, gardens and squares possess a supreme clarity, simplicity and timeless beauty. For many contemporary landscape architects and artists his work became a major influence on their approach to landscape as a spatial structure.
Prof. Dr. Udo Weilacher (* 1963) is a landscape architect who studied landscape design at the Technical University of Munich from 1986-1993. From 1989 to 1990 he was a student at the California State Polytechnic University in Pomona/ Los Angeles. He completed his dissertation with honours at the ETH Zurich in 2002 and was appointed Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Hannover. Since April 2009 Udo Weilacher is professor for Landscape Architecture and Industrial Landscape at the Technical University of Munich.
