This workshop forms part of a broader reflection on the traces and memories of German presence in the Musgum and Massa territories of Cameroon’s Far North between 1884 and 1916. It seeks to analyze how this colonial presence is perceived, narrated, and mapped today through local accounts, in comparison with the cartographic documents produced during the German colonial period. This approach aims to highlight the gaps, continuities, and reinterpretations between local memory and colonial knowledge. Furthermore, the research examines the trajectories of objects originating from these regions and currently held in German museums, in order to question their heritage status and their role in shaping a shared postcolonial memory.
