Dürer and Sculpture – Dürer as Sculpture

Other than the superb 1981 Frankfurt exhibition entitled “Dürers Verwandlung in der Skulptur zwischen Renaissance und Barock”, the artist's varied relationships with the medium of sculpture have rarely been addressed. The lecture will consider six topics: Dürer and the aesthetics of sculpture; his writings on sculpture; his designs for sculptors and goldsmiths; his prints as models for sculptors; Dürer(?) as sculptor; and Dürer as sculpture. The latter will include examples from the 16th to 20 centuries.
