Benutzerspezifische Werkzeuge

Joachim von Sandrart (1606-1688), author of the Teutsche Academie der Edlen Bau-, Bild- und Mahlerey-Künste, (1675) laid a theoretical foundation for how to educate artists and patrons to the betterment of society as a whole. Sandrart's relationship with Prince Elector Maximilian I of Bavaria (1573-1651) can reveal to what extent, if at all, these ideas had their roots in Maximilian's collecting practices. In this workshop, I want to explore Sandrart's commissions for the duke, including a cycle of Twelve Months painted specifically to be displayed in the Prince Elector's new picture gallery at Schleissheim Palace within the parameters of Sandrart's later theories.
